Sponsoring Butterlamps

In Tibet, butterlamps were traditionally fueled by clarified yak butter. Transforming an everyday substance into illumination symbolizes the transformation of the ordinary mind into the wise, compassionate mind of enlightenment. While we now use candles, the profound symbolism remains the same.

Consecrated on New Year’s Eve 1999, the Samye Ling Butterlamp House is dedicated to world peace. Following the wish of Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Rinpoche, lamp offerings at Samye Ling are dedicated not only to individuals but to all beings everywhere and each lamp is a contributing factor to world peace.

If you wish to sponsor butterlamps for a specific date, please contact Reception first to ensure availability. Once confirmed, you may complete your donation here.

All donations are processed securely by PayPal.

Note: Please include your confirmed lighting date in the PayPal comments section.

When a request is made, the person’s name is included in our daily prayers. The Sangha then dedicates the merit accumulated from these prayers to that individual and to the benefit of all sentient beings everywhere.
